This past weekend was the 48th annual Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival in Winter Park, Florida.
This is one of the most prestigious art festivals in Florida. The artists who display their work here are selected from thousands to have the chance to participate in the festival. This makes the quality of the art superb. There is everything from painting to sculpture, to digital art and photography. This year the most unique stalls we saw were traditional broom makers, nano-photography and paraffin casts of people that were so realistic it was almost creepy. However the stalls that seemed to make the most sales were photography, jewelry and pottery.
Not to be overshadowed by the art, the food vendors at the festival were also top notch. Festival goers were greeted with the smells of such gourmet selections as fresh tilapia sandwiches, scrumptious seafood quesadillas and gourmet crepes. We decided on crepes. For as crowded as the festival was, the wait was less than 5 minutes. In our party we sampled the chicken variety which was filled with grilled chicken, cheese, artichoke hearts and fresh spinach and the steak variety which was stuffed with grilled sirloin, cheddar cheese, avocado, tomato and a cilantro dressing. Both were fantastic. For desserts we had a tropical smoothie banana, coconut and pineapple, which was garnished with fresh banana. We also had ice cream bars where you got to choose your flavor of bar, the sauce it was dipped in, and the topping. They were very good and refreshing for such a warm and sunny day.
If you wanted, you could eat your food, while enjoying the love music that went on all day. During the time we were there, we heard reggae, a mariachi band and a symphonic band. Lots of people brought there own chairs and blankets to enjoy the music.
The admission to the festival is free and they do have many parking areas that are free as well. The only real cost to you is food or art if you wish to partake in either. So it is a nice inexpensive way to enjoy time out with the family. I cant wait until next year!
